Google’s Pigeon Update Solves Yelp Problem, Boosts Local Directories
Yelp and other local directory-style sites are benefiting with higher visibility after this latest Pigeon update, at least in some verticals. Google stated that this update ties local results more closely to standard web ranking signals.

This is huge. Just today, I was consulting with a client about how to design a newsletter without images first and I explained that the reporting on how many opens their newsletters received was grossly under counting newsletters that were scanned.
Google has announced that with their email client GMail, they will no longer ask permission to display newsletter images. Their logic is actually quite sound.
